Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series Cancels 2020 Season
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado – May 18, 2020
After extensive internal discussions and consultation with officials from the City of Steamboat Springs and Routt County, the Board of the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series regrets to announce that the entire 2020 season has been canceled. The award-winning rodeo was scheduled for every Friday and Saturday night from June 19 through August 22, including the July 3 & 4 performances of the Series which still utilize the traditional name, Cowboys Roundup Days.
“I hate it,” said Board Chairman Brent Romick, “but it’s the right thing to do for the health of our contestants, spectators, volunteers, sponsors, stock contractors, staff and quite frankly, the whole community.” “We figured it every way we could including starting later in the summer and running a partial season, but with all the unknowns out there including limits on the size of crowds, none of those options made any sense,” he continued.
“The roots of the current rodeo series go back to the 1980’s, but I understand there was a rodeo here as early as 1898,” commented Board President and Rodeo Announcer John Shipley. “In the early 1900’s the ‘continuous’ streak started, so we are pretty sure this will be the first summer in 117 years without a rodeo in Steamboat Springs. That’s very sad, but the all-volunteer Board who has made it happen (some for nearly 40 years) is determined to bring back this Steamboat Springs tradition better than ever in 2021 . . . and with the help of the sponsors, to whom we wish a speedy recovery, I am sure we can do it.”
Season ticket holders have the option of getting a refund or rolling the funds over to next season. Please email Admin@SteamboatProRodeo.com to make arrangements.
